Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) and its member-families are working to help rebuild areas of Texas following recent wildfires that scorched the land, destroyed buildings and displaced livestock. Those affected by the recent fires are encouraged to apply now for assistance through the TFB West Texas Wildfire Relief Fund.

Requests for proposals regarding American Rescue Plan Funding projects received unanimous approval from the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court during its regular meeting May 11. Trott Communications Group Manager of RF Engineering Barry Black of Irving discussed two projects VZC is involved in regarding the use of American Rescue Plan Funding.

There were 42 people in attendance during the National Day or Prayer in Van Zandt County held Thursday, May 5. Pastors from multiple churches around the county helped lead the event. The Canton High School Class of 2022 will hold commencement ceremonies at 7:30 p.m., at Norris Birdwell Stadium on the football field. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved into the Larry David Auditorium.

From downed greenhouses and snapped powerlines to splintered trees, the Canton area was hit by a strong spring storm late Sunday night, May 15. Multiple reports of power outages across the region spurred Oncor electric services to locate areas of extensive damage to repair and restore electricity.
