Triple homicide at Cedar Creek Lake subdivision leads to Ennis crash

Three people were murdered and two people were sent to a Tyler hospital in the early morning hours of Oct. 17 in the Cedar Creek Cove subdivision (formerly Cherokee Shores), the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) reported, with the suspect crashing through an entrance to a convenience store in Ennis about 2.5 hours later, putting two more people in the hospital, including himself after a self-inflicted gunshot wound, that Ellis County city’s police department said.

FIRST DIVISION RANKING

Despite multiple weather delays Oct. 18, the Canton High School Marching Band received First Division Rankings from all three judges in the UIL Class 4A Regional Marching Contest at Mesquite Memorial Stadium. The band advances to the Area competition scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 25 in Lindale. Success in the Area competition would mean a trip to San Antonio for the State Marching Competition in early November.

SPCA of Texas awarded custody of 16 dogs rescued in VZC

Before a civil custody hearing Wednesday, Oct. 15 at the Van Zandt County Justice of the Peace Precinct 4 Courtroom in Ben Wheeler, 16 dogs from a property in Van Zandt County were surrendered and released to the SPCA of Texas. Criminal charges in the case are being pursued.
