‘Stock the Classrooms’ project discussed

davidb@vanzandtnews.com Benefitting 1,200 Canton ISD elementary and intermediate students with school supplies for the upcoming 2025-26 school year is the challenge that is currently facing a local organization. Lacye Welch, a Canton ISD parent and the founder of the ‘Stock the Classrooms’ project for Canton ISD was the guest speaker July 16 during the weekly Canton Lions Club Luncheon at Van Zandt Country Club as she discussed the work being done through the project. Welch is not an employee of Canton ISD.

VZC Historical Commission receives state recognition

Once again, the Van Zandt County Historical Commission has been recognized for their outstanding work by the state as the Texas Historical Commission has named the VZC Historical Commission as the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award for 2024.
The Van Zandt County Historical Commission was recently named as the recipient of the 2024 Texas Historical Commission Distinguished Service Award. The members of the VZC Historical Commission, including Chairman Elvis Allen, were recognized by VZC Judge Andy Reese on their achievement during the regular meeting of the VZC Commissioners Court July 16. Bartley of Canton named to Chancellor’s List

The University of Arkansas is recognizing students for making the Spring 2025 Chancellor’s List. Daniel Bartley of Canton joins a prestigious group of students who have attained a 4.0 gradepoint average for the semester while completing at least 12 credit hours of coursework.
