Van Zandt County Judge Andy Reese and several area Pastors led in prayer during the 74th Annual National Day of Prayer Ceremony held May 1 in the VZC District Courtroom in the VZC Courthouse. Victory Church of Canton Pastor Mike Burns welcomed those in attendance as he presented a brief history of the National Day of Prayer Ceremony.

The Second Annual Military and First Responders Appreciation Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Canton School Board will have a new member as Catherine Irwin solidly won the Place 5 seat on the board over two opponents in the May 3 school board election. Irwin finished with a total of 273 votes followed by Justin Murdock with 85 and incumbent candidate Clay Nicklas with 64.

The Texas Star Quilters Guild has been invited to have a booth at the Military and First Responders Appreciation Day event Saturday, May 17 on the First Monday Grounds in Canton. The VFW is holding their Appreciation of Military and First Responders event from 9 a.m.

On April 24, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) released 2023 A-F accountability ratings for school systems and campuses statewide restoring transparency for parents and the public regarding school performance following a lawsuit-induced two-year delay.

The Van Zandt County Fair Association recently released results from the 2025 VZC Junior Livestock Show held recently at the VZC Fairgrounds in Canton and the results were as follows: Ag Mechanics Barrett Les, Van Zandt County 4-H, first place, Grand Champion. Purchased by PR Equipment for $3,600.00.
