The 2025-26 varsity boys’ basketball season came to a close Feb. 24 for the Canton Eagles in a 66-47 defeat at the hands of the Chapel Hill Bulldogs in the bi-district round of the Class 4A state basketball playoffs.

Most folks that read my column, listen to my radio shows or watch my outdoor adventures on ‘ A Sportsman’s Life’ TV show probably know that I absolutely love hunting wild hogs and enjoying the pork from the wild.

Just one week after clinching their third straight District title, the Canton Eaglettes took on Spring Hill in Mineola Feb. 17 for game one of the 2026 Class 4A playoff season.

The Canton Eagles (19-12 overall), the fourth-place team in district play, took on Chapel Hill in the bi-district round of the Class 4A state basketball playoffs Feb. 24 at Tyler Junior College.

Three members of the Canton Eagle varsity football team were selected to the Blue Bell/Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA) Class 4A All-State Football Team recently released. Canton defensive lineman Calan O’Neill (6-0, 190-pound senior) was selected to the All-State Second Team.

The Canton Eagles varsity boys’ basketball team punched their ticket for post-season play Feb. 13 as they outlasted the Brownsboro Bears on the road, 54-44.

The 2025-2026 district season finale took place on Feb. 10 for the Canton Eaglettes with a win over the Athens Lady Hornets to celebrate ‘Senior Night’ bringing their undefeated district record to 12-0.

The Canton Eaglettes started February with a bang. They hosted the Lindale Lady Eagles to firm up their district standings.

Things were looking promising for the Canton Eagle varsity boys’ basketball team Feb. 3 as they led the Lindale Eagles at home after three quarters of action.

On Tuesday, Jan. 20, the Canton Eaglettes varsity girls’ basketball team started the second half of District play.
