Local track and field athletes that survived the gauntlet of this year’s District 16-4A Meet made their way to Wildcat Stadium in Paris April 20, squaring off against competitors from Athens, Brownsboro, Cumberland Academy, Pittsburg, Sulphur Springs, Texarkana Liberty-Eylau, Texarkana Pleasant Grove, Lindale, Mabank, Paris and Paris North Lamar for a shot to compete at the Regional Meet.
Eaglettes take district in tiebreaker

A crash collision course with Mabank came to fruition this past week for the Canton Eaglettes, in a pair of two make-or-break games against the Lady Panthers. The Eaglettes would shock Mabank by taking both, simultaneously granting Canton the district championship and a one-seed for the upcoming playoffs.

The Canton Eagles outstanding regular season culminated early on Saturday afternoon, as late-inning heroics from the top of their lineup gifted them their fifth district title in their last six full seasons.

Eagles close in on district title

The Canton Eagles bid at a district title continued on a strong path this past week, as a win over Quinlan Ford pushed them closer to locking up the desired number one slot of District 14-4A. Canton would travel to Quinlan on Tuesday, April 11, and make quick work of the overmatched Panthers, handily defeating them by a score of 17-3.

The Canton Eaglettes kept pace with district-leading Mabank in the past weeks, picking up two big wins on their collision course with the Lady Panthers. Canton would open their week on a positive note, as they downed Quinlan Ford by a score of 7-1 in their contest on Tuesday, April 11.

The Canton Eagles bid at an unscathed district championship would come crashing to an end this past week, as they would split their two game slate against Wills Point and Kaufman. Canton’s week would begin in grand fashion on Tuesday, April 4, as they would cruise out of the gates against an undermatched Wills Point squad.

The Canton Eaglettes wasted no time in bouncing back from their heartbreaking loss to Mabank last week, as they dealt two shutouts on their way to a 2-0 week. The Eaglettes week began at home on Tuesday, hosting in a Wills Point Lady Tigers squad who they beat 19-0 in the first meeting between the clubs.

Athletes representing four county school districts, Canton, Martins Mill, Van and Wills Point, continued preparations for their respective district meets last week by competing at the annual Yellowjacket Relays in Mineola April 6.
