After visiting Mineola and Athens earlier in the day, Republican United States District 5 Congressman Lance Gooden closed out his Town Hall Meeting tour in his district June 6 with an appearance in Canton.

VZC well represented at Texas Republican Convention

The Texas Republican State Convention was held in San Antonio May 2325 and was attended by 6,700 delegates from across the state. This convention is the largest political convention held in the U.S., even larger than the Republican or Democratic National conventions.

Residents encouraged to report storm damage

The severe weather that has moved through Van Zandt County since April 26, 2024, left many residents with property damage due to high winds and heavy rainfall. The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) is encouraging those impacted by the storm to report damage through its Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT) Damage Survey.

Storm damage reporting process discussed

During an emergency session called by the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court June 3, the process for reporting damage caused by recent storms in VZC was discussed. City addresses concerns over property division

In response to growing community speculation surrounding the division of the City of Canton and Lewis’ First Monday property, Canton City Manager Lonny Cluck has provided clarification and reassurance. Contrary to rumors, there will be no imposing brick wall or ten-foot fence separating the properties, according to Cluck.
