Scholarship winners recognized by council members

The regular meeting of the Canton City Council was called to order on Tuesday, June 18, with a quorum present. The council was pleased to see a good turnout, thanks to the presence of the dedicated and talented young individuals who were set to receive scholarships that evening.

State Representative Jill Dutton visits Canton trustees

Texas District 2 State Representative Jill Dutton visited with the Canton School Board during their regular monthly meeting June 17. In a heartfelt message, Dutton expressed her gratitude to the teachers and staff of Canton ISD for their support in the recent elections.

New hours announced for FEMA DRC in VZC

According to Van Zandt County Judge Andy Reese, VZC has been approved for federal assistance from FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) for the recent storms between April 26, 2024 - June 5, 2024.

‘Wildlife on the Move’

The Van Zandt County Sarah Norman Library was abuzz with excitement June 28 as the library welcomed ‘Wildlife on the Move,’ featuring an experienced animal presenter dedicated to educating people about the natural world. This special presentation was part of the VZC/Sarah Norman Library Summer Reading program which is being held every Friday through July at the library.
A young volunteer assisted Eric Brittingham, known as ‘Mr. B,’ as he answered a question from the audience about snakes June 28 during a ‘Wildlife on the Move’ program at the Van Zandt County/Sarah Norman Library in Canton. The ‘Wildlife on the Move’ presentation was part of the weekly Summer Reading Program series at the library. The Summer Reading program continues every Friday at 10 a.m. through the end of July. July 4 activities set for Thursday

It is that time of year again and the Fourth of July will be here before you know it. This year, all of the Fourth of July events and sponsorships scheduled for Thursday, July 4, will be managed through the City of Canton directly.

Barber named as new editor

David Barber has been named editor of the Canton Herald, Wills Point Chronicle and Van Zandt News. The announcement was made by John Buzzetta, president of Van Zandt Newspapers, LLC, which publishes the newspapers.
