Software upgrade approved by commissioners’ court

Body A software upgrade to the Van Zandt County Financial Package received unanimous approval by the VZC Commissioners Court during its regular meeting April 24. The upgrade received approval from the commissioners’ court following a presentation by VZC Auditor Sandy Hill.

VZC to apply for courthouse restoration grant

Body davidb@vanzandtnews.com Van Zandt County Judge Andy Reese was authorized by the VZC Commissioners Court to apply for the 202425 Texas Historical Commission Courthouse Restoration Grant. The grant would total $9.5 million.

ETX Senior Expo set for May 16 in Athens

Body The ETX Senior Expo and Resource Fair will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 16 at the First Methodist Church of Athens located at 225 Lovers Lane. The event is sponsored by Alinea Family Hospice Care of Athens.

National Day of Prayer to be observed May 2

Body The 73rd annual National Day of Prayer is scheduled for Thursday, May 2. The event will be held at the Van Zandt County Court at Law Courtroom inside the VZC Courthouse in Canton with the prayer service beginning at 12:15 p.m. and continuing until 12:45 p.m.

Supply of radios approved for Edgewood FD

Body Following a recommendation by Van Zandt County Pct. 3 Commissioner Keith Pearson, the VZC Commissioners Court approved supplying the Edgewood Fire Department with radios for the new VZC radio emergency system that is currently being installed.
