Debate set for Jan. 19 at The Silver Spur Resort

davidb@vanzandtnews.com With Early Voting scheduled to get underway Feb. 20, plans for a debate involving candidates seeking office in the March 5 Primary Election has been scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19 at The Silver Spur Resort, located on State Highway 19 north of Interstate 20, in Canton.

Dutton, Money release statements following Jan. 30 election

Both Republican Party candidates in the special runoff election Jan. 30 for the Texas House District 2 seat released statements following the results showing that Jill Dutton of Van defeated Brent Money of Greenville by 111 votes in the three-county election. Texas House District 2 covers Van Zandt, Hunt, and Hopkins Counties.

Commissioners hear update on special election voting

During the Jan. 31 regular meeting of the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court, VZC Clerk Susan Strickland shared an overall positive report regarding voting procedures in VZC during the Jan. 30 Texas House District 2 special runoff election.

Lakeside Baptist Church to host ‘Night to Shine’ Feb. 9

‘Night to Shine’ is an unforgettable prom night experience, centered on God’s love, for people with special needs ages 14 and older. Hosted by Lakeside Baptist Church in Canton, in partnership with First Baptist Church of Canton, the churches have worked with the Tim Tebow Foundation to host ‘Night to Shine’ in Van Zandt County.

TxDOT releases project updates for the week of Jan. 29

Canton Maintenance is scheduled to patch potholes throughout the county. A second crew will complete the overlay on FM 47. Expect lane closures with flaggers controlling traffic.
