Money, Dutton hold debate prior to election

VZC Child Welfare Board provides update

The Van Zandt County Child Welfare Board works hard for around 100 foster children in VZC. They provide allowances, clothing, birthdays, peewee sports fees, college tuition, rehabilitative equipment for injuries, Christmas presents, and other expenses.

Placement of plaque discussed during meeting

During their first regular meeting of 2024 held Jan. 3, the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court approved tentative plans for placement of a bronze plaque featuring William Travis’ ‘Victory or Death’ letter to be displayed at the VZC Courthouse.

Efforts by Good Samaritans not forgotten in owl rescue

Although the overall story does not have a happy ending, the efforts of some Good Samaritans cannot be overlooked. Three days before Christmas last month, Carol Moser of Canton was coming out of the Denny’s location off the Interstate 20 Service Road in Canton.
Through the efforts of some Good Samaritans, this barred owl was rescued last month before Christmas along Interstate 20 in front of Denny’s in Canton after being hit by a vehicle. The owl suffered a broken wing and unfortunately, did not survive a few days later. Photo courtesy of Thomas Clower

Van Zandt Newspapers L.L.C. will publish, at no cost, one article, not to exceed 350 words, and a photograph for each candidate that has filed for Van Zandt County office in advance of the March 5 Primary Election.

LaPrade receives Leadership Academy Class certificate
