An update on repairs in the Van Zandt County District Courtroom was given to the VZC Commissioners Court during a special called meeting Dec. 27.

Average gasoline prices in Texas have risen 21.7 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.82/g Jan. 2, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Prices in Texas are 8.4 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 5.7 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 1.4 cents in the last week and stands at $4.67 per gallon.

The Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office took to social media last week, warning residents about the new rise of a scam that has periodically cycled through the area in previous years. The scam typically involves a perpetrator calling a number and identifying themselves as a member of a law enforcement agency.

Rhoten to lead CHS as principal

The Canton City Council, The Canton Planning and Zoning Commission, and a Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee held a public meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 13 to discuss the updating of the City of Canton 2004 Comprehensive Plan.

Plans are being finalized for the swearing-in ceremony for 16 Van Zandt County elected officials to begin the new year of 2023. The swearing-in ceremony will take place at 2 p.m.

The final monthly sales tax revenue report of the year was published by the office of Texas State Comptroller Glenn Hegar Dec. 7, indicating that four out of seven local cities had seen gains when comparing against the same period from the previous year.
