VZC Fair Robotics, Spelling Bee results released

Results of the Robotics and Spelling Bee competitions in the recent Van Zandt County Fair and Rodeo held at the VZC Fairgrounds in Canton were as follows: Robotics The Junior division winning team was the Van Zandt 4-H Clover team. Second place went to the Van Zandt 4-H ‘Jack’ team.

Canton Herald implementing new deadlines

A new deadline schedule is now in effect for the Canton Herald beginning with the Thursday, May 8 issue. All articles, photos, classifi ed advertising, legal notices, and display advertising will now be due on Thursdays at 5 p.m.

Pruitt named Citizen of the Year

Canton School Board President Kenneth Pruitt was named as the Citizen of the Year during the annual Canton Texas Chamber of Commerce Community Awards Dinner April 24 at Canton Civic Center. The theme of the banquet was ‘Masquerade: Behind the Mask.’ An estimated 325 were in attendance.

School Board Election Day set for Saturday

With Early Voting coming to a close April 29, the focus is now on Election Day voting scheduled for Saturday in the Canton School Board election. Due to a minimum number of candidates filing, the City of Canton cancelled its May 3 election while the Canton School Board election will feature one contested race.

Temporary Restraining Order extended to May 7

The Temporary Restraining Order against the developers of a lithium battery storage facility being built south of Canton has been extended through Wednesday, May 7. Van Zandt County Criminal District Attorney Tonda Curry updated the VZC Commissioners Court during its regular meeting April 23.
