Wild chase to Corsicana ends with arrest

A wild chase from Athens to Corsicana last Wednesday afternoon ended when Henderson Sheriff Botie Hillhouse’s Narcotics Investigators arrested a wanted man who was also in possession of contraband. “Our team does not quit,” Hillhouse said of the long pursuit from the Athens Loop, up State Highway 31, into Corsicana and up to Wilmer, through a golf course, open pastures, and a neighborhood.

The James Pinckney Henderson Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas met June 25 in Canton. Members enjoyed the presentation by Pat Thibodeau on Republic of Texas Citizen and Early Settler in Van Zandt County Elvira Engledow who is buried in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Affordable health screenings coming to Canton

Canton, Texas – Residents living in and around the Canton, Texas can learn about their risk for cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, diabetes, and other chronic, serious conditions with affordable screenings by Life Line Screening. Canton Senior Citizens Center will host this community event on 7/8/2022. The site is located at 200 Groves St in Canton.

MAGICAL BALLOON MAN MAKES MAGIC AT VZC LIBRARY

The Van Zandt County Library opened up their Summer Reading Program with Rob Holladay, also known as the Magical Balloon Man. There were 75 children and 60 adults attending the first program. “We hope to see these numbers growing,” stated VZC Librarians. The next Summer Reading Program will be held at 10 a.m. with performer Eric Brittingham with Wildlife on the Move. There were 10 children who received prizes as part of the Summer Reading Program. Those winners are Josie Reynolds, Jude Snyder, Emma Weeks, Jackson, David Blood, Ashlynn Macc, Violet, Audie Cooper, Kase and Tayler (some last names have been withheld.) Get a chance to win a prize on June 17 after the Wildlife on the Move presentation. Everyone who attends the Summer Reading Program gets a ticket for a chance to win.
