The Texas Star Quilters Guild has begun a ‘Community Sit & Sew’ on the second Friday of every month at the Van Zandt County/Sarah Norman Library in Canton from noon to 4 p.m. “We welcome beginners to those experienced!” said an event spokesperson.

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Canton has announced plans to host free car seat and booster seat inspections from 3-5 p.m. Thursday, March 21 at the Van Zandt County/Sarah Norman Library, located at 317 First Monday Lane, in Canton.

Canton Maintenance will have one crew repairing base and performing overlay on FM 3227. Expect lane closures with flaggers controlling traffic. Also, crews will be performing bridge maintenance on FM 16, I-20, and other locations throughout the county. Another crew will be sweeping curb and gutter and bridges throughout the county. Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar recently said that state sales tax revenue totaled $3.69 billion in February, .05 percent more than in February 2023. The majority of February sales tax revenue is based on sales made in January and remitted to the agency in February.
