Burke to speak at Memorial Day program

Retired United States Air Force Colonel Timothy J. Burke will be the guest speaker for the annual Memorial Day program at the Van Zandt County Veterans Memorial in Canton beginning at 10 a.m. Monday, May 29.

The Canton Lions Club District 2-2X met May 17 at the Van Zandt Country Club with Lion President Tanya Watkins presiding. The members honored one of its own, Lion Bob Giles. Bob has been serving the community as a Lion for 50 years!

Hunt County attorney to vie for District 2 seat

Conservative attorney, business owner, and public servant Brent Money today launched his campaign for the now vacant Texas House of Representatives District 2 seat. He enters the race having already raised more than $50,000 from people who live and work in the district. A sixth generation Hunt County resident, Brent is guided by the deep Texan conservative values of faith, family, and service to others. Brent has built a successful law and title business, Money Law & Title, with six offices across northeast Texas.

VanTrease announces candidacy to represent District 2

With news breaking earlier this month that Republican District 2 State Representative Bryan Slaton of Royse City had resigned from office following an investigation into multiple misconduct allegations, the first challenger for the now vacant seat has stepped forward.

A swearing-in ceremony and the recognition of a few Canton High School graduates highlighted the regular monthly meeting of the Canton City Council May 16. Mayor Lou Ann Everett and council members Randon Sumner and Cassidy Nichole Henderson were sworn into office by City of Canton Municipal Judge Lilia Durham.

Edwards recognized for 15 years of service in VZC

During their regular meeting May 10, the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court recognized a VZC employee for his years of service. VZC Treasurer Kenny Edwards received a 15-year of service ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ from VZC Pct.
