davidb@vanzandtnews.com Progress on the construction of the new Canton High School and multi-purpose facility was the main topic of discussion during the March 25 Canton Lions Club Luncheon at the Van Zandt Country Club.

The 2026 Van Zandt County Fair and Rodeo began March 28 and continues through Saturday, April 4 at the VZC Fairgrounds located on State Highway 64 near the State Highway 243 intersection in Canton. Admittance to the grounds is $5.00 per car or $1.00 per walk-in.

Three resolutions for the month of April were unanimously approved by the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court during its regular meeting March 25. The resolutions addressed Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Child Abuse and Neglect Awareness Month, and Fair Housing Month.

Preparations continue for the Annual Canton Texas Chamber of Commerce Community Awards Gala scheduled for Saturday, April 11, at the Canton Civic Center. Doors will open at 5 p.m.

It was another successful event March 26 during the Annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Van Zandt County/Sarah Norman Library in Canton as around 60 children and 40 adults including the Easter bunny were in attendance on a near perfect weather day

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is planning to conduct the following construction and maintenance work in the district during the week of March 30, 2026. Please remember, work schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, equipment failure, or other unforeseen issues.
