Members of the Republican Women of Van Zandt have been busy with elections and preparation for the upcoming state GOP convention as well as fundraising. At the April meeting, member Debbie Burden was honored with our ‘Girl Power’ award for the first quarter of 2024.

Finding connections, finding answers: Patti Huff Williams took her audience on a fascinating family research journey, with the GEDMatch DNA program as the roadmap during the April 27 Spring Genealogy Workshop of the Van Zandt County Genealogical Society.

Van Zandt Newspapers is putting out the call to all local photographers for the Summer 2024 Explore Magazine Photography Contest. Winning entries will be featured in Van Zandt Newspapers’ annual Explore Magazine with name credit.

This week, Canton Maintenance is scheduled to perform mill and inlay on SH 64 between SH 243 and FM 16. Crews will perform the same work on SH 19 between I-20 and SH 64. Expect lane closures with flaggers controlling traffic.

Van Zandt County Director of Emergency Management Vicki McAlister shared that there were several road closures in Van Zandt County as a result of a storm that went through the area April 26.

A software upgrade to the Van Zandt County Financial Package received unanimous approval by the VZC Commissioners Court during its regular meeting April 24. The upgrade received approval from the commissioners’ court following a presentation by VZC Auditor Sandy Hill.
