The Eighth Annual Blue Jackets/Gold Standards Dinner and Auction benefi ting the Canton Future Farmers of America (FFA) will be held Thursday, Nov. 30 in the Canton High School Commons Area.

Radio stations KWJB (95.1 FM and 1510 AM) in Canton and KMOO (99.9 FM) in Mineola are celebrating 60 years of radio and the celebration will continue. November 1, 1963, was the day the radio stations were born.

One man died as a result of an early morning vehicle accident Nov. 25 on State Highway 64, two miles northwest of Myrtle Springs.

During the regular meeting of the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court Nov. 22, VZC Clerk Susan Strickland informed the commissioners’ court that Governor Greg Abbott has set a new runoff election date in the race for the currently vacant Texas House District 2 seat.

In a 3-2 vote, the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court nominated three individuals to serve on the Van Zandt County Appraisal District’s Board of Directors for the next two years. Larry Shackelford of Ben Wheeler, David King of Canton, and Kyle Thompson of Grand Saline were among eight nominees that the commissioners’ court chose from during its regular meeting Nov.

The Carter BloodCare bus will be in Canton for two stops during the month of December. The first blood drive will take place from 2-6 p.m.
