Rainbow Trout fishing kicks off the holiday season

The annual Texas winter tradition of rainbow trout stocking returns to waterbodies across the state to kick off the holiday season. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) will stock thousands of rainbow trout beginning the week of Thanksgiving to give anglers a chance to catch one of these iconic fish.

Runoff election date for Money, Dutton to be changed

According to the Van Zandt County Clerk’s office, the date for the runoff election in the Texas House District 2 race between Republicans Brent Money of Greenville and Jill Dutton of Van will not take place on Dec. 9 and will be moved to an undetermined later date.

Investigation continues in I-20 shooting

According to Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office Deputy and Public Information Offi cer Erin McLeaish, on Nov. 10 shortly after 9 p.m., VZC law enforcement officers were called to Interstate 20 near mile marker 529, approximately six miles east of State Highway 64, for a report of a shooting.

Voters approve school bond propositions

Voters in Canton ISD approved two separate propositions in a $114.7 million school bond election. Proposition ‘A’ called for the construction of a new high school campus at a cost of $102,625,000 and Proposition ‘B’ called for the construction of a Multi-Purpose Activity Center at a cost of $12,075,000.

Canton High School Band Director Mike Bartley is in his 31st year of teaching including 15 years at CHS. A University of Arkansas graduate, Bartley previously taught in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas, including nine years at Wills Point ISD.
