Scarecrow contest winners announced at Fall Festival

During the 22nd annual Canton Main Street Fall Festival Oct. 14, first, second, and third prize winners were announced in the annual ‘Scarecrow Contest.’ Van Zandt Martial Arts Center finished in first place and earned a $100.00 cash prize.

Around 800 fourth grade students representing all seven school districts in Van Zandt County were in attendance Oct. 3, 4 for the annual ‘Ag Day’ program at the VZC Fairgrounds in Canton sponsored by the Texas Farm Bureau and the TexasA&M AgriLife Extension Service.

Newspaper employees visit Canton Lions Club Luncheon

During the regular weekly luncheon meeting Oct. 4 at the Van Zandt Country Club, Canton Lions Club Second Vice-President Sandy Sims introduced the guest speakers; David Barber, Tiffany Hardy, and Susan Harris, staff members at Van Zandt Newspapers L.L.C. in Canton. They were in attendance in celebration of National Newspaper Week. Barber, Senior Reporter and a 41-year employee of Van Zandt Newspapers L.L.C., gave an overview through a power-point presentation prepared by Hardy.
