Local students awarded scholarships at University of Arkansas

Local students were awarded scholarships this fall from the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas. The awards are part of 960 scholarships totaling $1.6 million given this fall to Fulbright College students across four academic disciplines: arts, humanities, natural sciences and social sciences.

City approves $3 million agreement with CEDC

During an unusual special called noon meeting Sept. 27, the Canton City Council approved in a 4-0 vote, a resolution to sell approximately 10.97 acres of land to the Canton Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) at a cost of $3 million. Council member Chase Melton was not in attendance. The special meeting began in open session but was quickly changed to a closed executive session at the request of City of Canton Manager Lonny Cluck after it was shared by City of Canton Assistant Manager Steve Ruppenthal that the CEDC board approved the development agreement during their meeting Sept. 26.

Every Tuesday night from 6-7 pm, Canton radio station KWJB (95.1 FM) ‘The Bee’ broadcast live from Latham Bakery, located on the west side of the downtown square in Canton, throughout the high school football season for a program known as ‘The Huddle Show.’
‘The Huddle Show,’ a weekly program about Van Zandt County football teams, airs every Tuesday from 6-7 p.m. on Canton radio station KWJB (95.1 FM) ‘The Bee.’ The co-hosts of the show are from left to right, Van Zandt Newspapers Sports Correspondent David Barber (‘The Godfather’); Joel Elliott (‘The Counselor’); and T.A.
