Early voting officially opens

ETHAN ADAMS news@vanzandtnews.com The local election season is quickly coming to a peak, as the early-voting period officially opened on April 24. The field of canddiates had been locked in place for more than two months following a month-long candidate filing period that began in mid-January and eneded Feb.

Farmers Market to return this weekend

ETHAN ADAMS news@vanzandtnews.com The sixth annual Canton Farmers Market, presented by the Canton Main Street Program, is scheduled to return this weekend, with opening day set for Saturday, April 22. The Farmers Market, which first opened in 2018 by Canton Main Street, has shown continual growth in each year since being formed.

ETHAN ADAMS news@vanzandtnews.com The heavily anticipated election season will officially be ushered in next week, as eligible voters living within the boundaries of Canton ISD are able to cast their ballots beginning at 8 a.m. on April 24.

Junior Livestock Auction

There were 103 exhibitors that qualified to sell their projects at the Junior Livestock Auction on Friday, March 31 during the county fair. The Grand Champion Steer belonging to Bryntlee Wilkerson with Van Zandt 4-H sold for $33,000 to a group of buyers: Wills Point Ford, Wills Point Cheverolet, EPIC, SR Construction, P&W Welding, Hidden Oakes Cattle, Michele Neal Consulting, Sweet Baby Rays Consulting, Firehouse Pools & Outdoors, First State Bank Ben Wheeler, A-1 Consulting, Cajun Marine, Wagonburner, Hawes Cattle Company, Cowboy Headquarters, and SDSDale & Marty Nace.

Uptick in sales tax revenue reported

The Texas State Comptroller’s Office delivered mostly positive results to Van Zandt County cities last week, announcing that five out of seven local entities had posted sales tax revenue gains when comparing against collection totals against the same month from the previous year.
