Town Hall Meeting on Sharia Law draws over 300 in attendance

Over 300 citizens from Van Zandt County and beyond were in attendance May 18 for a Town Hall Meeting hosted by the Republican Club of VZC (RCVZC) at the Canton Civic Center with the program primarily focusing on the topic of ‘Sharia Law and Constitutional Intrusion.’

A number of students and teachers were recognized for their accomplishments during the 2025-26 school year May 11 at the regular monthly meeting of the Canton School Board. The meeting was moved to the Canton Elementary School Cafetorium due to the large crowd in attendance.

Early Voting ends Friday for VZC runoff elections

Early Voting for the Van Zandt County Republican Party and Democratic Party Runoff Elections scheduled for Tuesday, May 26, ends Friday, May 22, according to the VZC Clerk’s office. Early Voting is available each day through May 22 from 7 a.m.

Annual Memorial Day Ceremony set for May 25

The Van Zandt County Veterans Memorial Board of Directors recently released information about the 2026 Memorial Day Program scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, May 25, at the VZC Veterans Memorial, located at the intersection of State Highways 19 and 243 in Canton. Members of Boy Scout Troop 378 in Canton are scheduled to begin the program by Presenting the Colors.

Groundbreaking held for new Hall Chevrolet GMC facility

Under warm and sunny skies May 13, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the new Hall Chevrolet GMC dealership location on State Highway 19 near Taco Bell in Canton. “Hall Chevrolet GMC is proud to announce the groundbreaking of its new, state of the art dealership facility in Canton,” said Hall Chevrolet GMC Owner Pam Hall.
