During their regular meeting May 6, the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court discussed three workshop items that resulted in no action being taken. The first workshop item involved the number of radios needed for each Road and Bridge Precinct as installation of the new emergency radio system continues.

Annual Memorial Day Ceremony set for May 25

The Van Zandt County Veterans Memorial Board of Directors recently released information about the 2026 Memorial Day Program scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, May 25, at the VZC Veterans Memorial, located at the intersection of State Highways 19 and 243 in Canton. Members of Boy Scout Troop 378 in Canton are scheduled to begin the program by Presenting the Colors.

History Detectives of VZC treasure hunt announced

Starting May 15, Van Zandt County kids and adults will have the opportunity to explore the history of the county and have fun doing it. This summer, the VZC Historical Commission (VZCHC), the Van Zandt County Museums group and local libraries will conduct the History Detectives of Van Zandt County treasure hunt, a summer activity that will help interested residents journey through historic locations, learn about the past, and (for top Detectives) earn prizes.

Early Voting begins May 18 for runoff elections

Early Voting for the Van Zandt County Republican Party and Democratic Party Runoff Elections scheduled for Tuesday, May 26, will begin Monday, May 18, according to the VZC Clerk’s office. There will be only one week of Early Voting which will take place from 7 a.m.

National Day of Prayer celebrated in VZC

davidb@vanzandtnews.com Several area Pastors prayed about various topics May 7 during the 75th Annual National Day of Prayer Ceremony. The program was held inside the Van Zandt County Court at Law Courtroom located on the second floor of the VZC Courthouse in Canton.
Pastor Mike Burns of Victory Church in Canton welcomed those in attendance May 7 for the 75th Annual National Day of Prayer Ceremony.
