A truck driver has been charged with five counts of manslaughter after a deadly crash on I-20 that killed five people on Saturday afternoon, June 28. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Alexis Gonzalez-Companioni fell asleep at the wheel, causing his semi-truck to plow into stopped traffic on the highway, causing a chain reaction.

The Van Zandt County/Sarah Norman Library in Canton recently announced the donation of a table for the children’s area of the library. According to library director Tonja Garten, the table was donated in memory of Kathleen Stanford Barber on what would have been her 100th birthday on July 5, 2025.
