It will be a whole new look for the Canton Eagles and Eaglettes in district play beginning next school year as the Texas University Interscholastic League District Realignment for the 202627 and 2027-28 school years was announced Feb. 2.

It was a tough night for the Canton Eagles varsity boys’ basketball team at home Jan. 28 as they lost to the Mabank Panthers, 59-48, in district action.

Every two years, coaches, students, parents, and fans look forward to the announcement by the Texas University Interscholastic League (UIL) regarding district realignment and that time has arrived once again.

The Canton Eagles’ varsity boys basketball team continued their winning ways Jan. 20 as they defeated the Brownsboro Bears in district action, 49-36.

The Canton Eaglettes headed south to meet up with the Athen Hornets Jan. 16 to finish off the first round of district play as they looked to complete the first round undefeated.

The Eaglettes faced off in their fourth district game against the Lindale Eagles on Jan. 9 in Lindale.

The Canton Eagles’ varsity boys’ basketball team picked up another district win Jan. 9 as they outlasted Lindale on the road, 47-45.

The Canton Eaglettes were well represented on the District 15-4A All-District Volleyball Team that was recently released. Addison Alexander of the Eaglettes was named as the district’s ‘Most Valuable Player (MVP).’ Peyton Goodson of Canton was named as the ‘Defensive Player of the Year’ in the district.

The Canton Eaglettes faced off with their State Highway 198 rivals, the Mabank Lady Panthers on Jan. 2, which would end in a thrilling finish.

In a thrilling finish featuring two Van Zandt County rivals Jan. 7, the Canton Eagles, led by Judson Dyke’s 39 points, got past the Van Vandals, 61-53, in overtime. Dyke made 15 two-point field goals and nine out of 13 free throws to lead the Eagles to victory.
