Golf program recognized by board of trustees

The Canton ISD Board of Trustees recognized members of the State qualifying Eaglette golf team at its June 19 meeting. Led by Coach Tommy Day, the team of Taryn Clayton, Caroline Stern, Bella Irwin, Jayme Robertson and Caroline Stern finished fourth overall during play at Legends Golf Club in Kingsland May 15-16.

The Canton Eagle athletic program will keep busy throughout the summer months, hosting a series of athletic camps specializing in basketball, softball, baseball, football and volleyball. Each camp will include fun games for participants, as well as instruction on fundamentals to help future Eagle standouts soar even higher.

Amari Welch, a key piece of Canton’s continued rise as a basketball power over the past four seasons, capped her decorated high school playing career by signing a letter of intent to compete at Tyler Junior College beginning in the fall. Welch was joined by coaches, family, friends and teammates during the signing ceremony.

Eaglette golfers place fourth at State

The Canton High School girls golf team made its way to Legends Golf Club in Kingsland May 15-16, squaring off against teams from Andrews, Canyon, Comal Davenport, Lampasas, Salado, Seminole, Corpus Christi Calallen, Lindale, Sulphur Springs, China Spring and Devine, as well as individual qualifiers from other 4A schools across Texas at the Class 4A State Golf Tournament.

Eaglettes come up short in Regional Quarterfinals

The Canton Eaglette softball team saw another dream season draw to a close last week, falling to a talented Farmersville program in the Regional Quarterfinals. Despite the disappointing finish, the Eaglettes would etch their name into the school’s record book, winning the program’s first-ever district title, setting a high-water mark for wins in a season with 30 and reaching the Regional Quarterfinals for the second year in a row.
