The Canton Running Eagles competed at the Rains Invitational on Thursday, September 22. The varsity girls were meet champions out of 16 teams and 121 runners on the 2.2 mile course.
The Canton Running Eagles made the short trek to Van Sept. 17, competing against schools from across the area at the annual Youth With a Mission Meet. Canton would go on to put together a strong showing, placing first overall in both the varsity boys and varsity girls divisions.
Canton players and coaches entered the season with a clear goal in mind, targeting a fast start during non-district play and another district title for the program. The Eaglettes easily reached their first goal, racing out of the gates with an 18-7 record while tangling against a slate of talented opponents throughout non-district.
The Canton Eagles got back on track Friday night with a 35-7 rout of their rival, the Mabank Panthers. Following two straight 20-point losses and the daunting task of district play looming on the horizon, Friday against Mabank represented a chance to get back on track for the Eagles.
The Canton Eagles fell to 1-2 in the young 2022 season, following defeat at the hands of the Caddo Mills Foxes this past Friday, 31-13. In a game where the final score appeared closer than how competitive the contest felt, Canton seemed to be out of sorts all night long.
A host of local cross country programs, including runners from Canton, Edgewood, Grand Saline, Martins Mill, Van and Wills Point, made their way to the Canton Sept. 10 to compete at the annual Running Eagles Invitational.
The Canton Eaglette volleyball program put the finishing touches on non-district play last week, taking the court against both Kaufman and Palestine in tune-up matches. Canton would prevail in both, running their overall season record to 18-7 as they hit the most important stretch of the year.
