Eaglettes down Brownsboro, clinch district title

Canton Eaglette players and coaches were not shy about their goals entering the 2022 season, putting a district title near the top of their lists. Canton reached that goal in impressive fashion over the past week of play, notching wins over both Cumberland Academy and Brownsboro with one match left before the start of postseason play.

The Running Eagles ran at the Region II meet on Monday, October 24 in windy and rainy conditions. The girls team captured fourth place and a chance to compete at the Class 4A State Meet in Round Rock Nov.

Canton falls to Bullard on Homecoming

The Bullard Panthers played spoiler to Canton’s homecoming on Friday night, as an attempted comeback bid by the Eagles fell short, marking their fourth straight defeat, by a score of 29-21. The Eagles entered Friday sitting at 0-3 in District 8-4A, Division 2, after facing the gauntlet of Center, Van, and Carthage to start their district campaign.

Eaglettes stay perfect in district play

The Canton Eaglettes have been virtually automatic on the volleyball court during the 2022 season, entering last week with a sterling 25-7 record overall with their only losses coming to currently state-ranked teams.
The Canton Eaglette volleyball program has had plenty of reason to smile during the 2022 season, finding themselves just a win shy of another district title for the program. The Canton High School girls golf team competed in the Wildcat invitational at Sulphur Springs Country Club Oct. 17 and finished first overall with a team score of 350. Teams they beat included Sulphur Springs, Paris, Longview and Texas High. Individual results included Taryn Clayton shooting an 81 to finish fourth overall, Bella Irwin shooting an 86, Caroline Stern an 89, Jayme Robertson a 94 and Jessica Lea an 106. Canton drops third straight, loses to Carthage 49-0

Times are hard for the downtrodden Canton Eagles, who failed to score in their third straight district game, falling to the Carthage Bulldogs 49-0 on Friday night. With playmakers Kameron Shaw and Chantson Prox both nursing injuries sustained in past weeks, the Eagles offense once again could not find it’s footing in a blowout loss.

‘PLAY 4 BREY’

Over the past week, communities across the county have been doing their part to pay homage to the Brey family, who are dealing with the tragic loss of their son, Wyatt, and serious injuries to their daughter, Alexis, following an accident this past week. In an emotional scene at Friday night’s football game between Canton and Van, Canton ISD students and staff held a pregame ceremony in the Breys’ honor.
