Dutton sends letter to chairman following public meeting

Following a public meeting held by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) in Canton July 25, Texas District 2 State Representative Jill Dutton released a letter she sent to TCEQ Chairman Jon Niermann of Austin July 30 regarding the permit application for Class B Biosolids and Residuals by Denali Water Solutions LLC of Russellville, Arkansas.

CHS 1964 football team planning 60th reunion

The 1964 B-District Champion Canton High School Eagle varsity football team, which not only went undefeated during the scheduled season, but also was not scored on, will be having their 60th team reunion Friday, Sept. 13.

During the regular monthly meeting of the Canton School Board on July 22, GLS Architects presented an update on the layout of the new high school and multipurpose building as they provided further details on the progress and direction of the project. One of the major topics discussed was the site plan, with a particular focus on the floodway and floodplain.

Opposition to proposed TCEQ application expressed

A nearly two-hour public meeting conducted by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) drew a large crowd primarily consisting of individuals who strongly expressed their opposition to a proposed land application of biosolids permit.

VZCAD shares information about disaster damage to property

Texas Property Tax Code Section 11.35 allows a qualified property that is at least 15 percent damaged by a disaster in a governor-declared disaster area to receive a temporary exemption of a portion of the appraised value of the property. According to the Van Zandt County Appraisal District, a property owner must apply for the temporary exemption no later than 105 days after the governor declares a disaster area. Qualified property includes: — tangible personal property used for income production; — improvements to real property (i.e. buildings or structures); and — certain manufactured homes.
