New employees at the City of Canton were introduced during the regular monthly meeting of the Canton City Council July 16. Council member Randon Sumner was not in attendance.

The Republican Club of Van Zandt County is featuring at their July meeting what will be three newly elected members of the Texas State House of Representatives. The July meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, July 22, at the Van Zandt County Farm Bureau Conference Center located at 220 Burnett Trail in Canton.

Texans should be aware that con artists and criminals may try to obtain money or steal personal information through fraud or identity theft after Hurricane Beryl. In some cases, thieves try to apply for FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) assistance using names, addresses, and Social Security numbers they have stolen from survivors.

City of Canton Director of Operations Peter Lamont was the guest speaker July 10 during the weekly Canton Lions Club Luncheon at the Van Zandt Country Club. Lamont, who was introduced by Canton Lions Club President Jonathan Helvey, discussed the city’s 10-year Comprehensive Plan during his presentation at the luncheon.

Two options were presented by VZC Judge Andy Reese to the commissioners’ court on how the selection of the VZC Salary Grievance Committee members would take place.

John Brewer of Canton graduated from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock during the Spring 2024 semester. Brewer graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management.
