National Day of Prayer to be observed

The 73rd annual National Day of Prayer is scheduled for Thursday, May 2. The event will be held at the Van Zandt County Courthouse in Canton with the prayer service beginning at 12:15 p.m. and continuing until 12:45 p.m.

Smith to speak at VZC genealogy workshop April 27

Patti Huff Smith, noted genealogist and speaker with deep roots in Texas, will present a free workshop from 1:30-4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, for the Van Zandt County Genealogical Society, at the VZC/Sarah Norman Library, located at 317 First Monday Lane in Canton.

My family and friends that know me well often joke about the way I go about planning a hunt. I almost always have the hunt planned out in my mind before I ever hit the woods, everything from the time I expect game (hogs this time of year) to show up to the seasoning I plan to use on the meat I harvest.

City-wide cleanup ends Saturday

The City of Canton is continuing with a statewide 57-year tradition known as ‘Keep Texas Beautiful’ during the week of April 15. In 1967, the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation, now known as the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), created the Beautify Texas Council to help give Texas a facelift for the upcoming 1968 HemisFair in San Antonio.

TVEC awards grant to Texas Star Quilters Guild

The Trinity Valley Electric Cooperative (TVEC) Charitable Foundation awarded a grant March 26 in the amount of $2,000 to the Texas Star Quilters Guild. The TVEC Charitable Foundation is funded by donations from Operation Round Up.
