A ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ was presented to Frances Hyde by the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court during their regular meeting March 27 on her retirement after 28 years of service as a part-time VZC Pct. 2 employee. The presentation was made to Hyde by VZC Pct. 2 Commissioner Virgil Melton Jr., who was presiding over the meeting in the absence of VZC Judge Andy Reese.

The public is invited to attend the unveiling of a bronze plaque commemorating the historic ‘Victory or Death’ letter authorized by William Barret Travis at The Alamo in 1836. The event will take place at 10 a.m.

With the weather turning warmer, it is time to think about Spring Festival activities in and around Canton and Van Zandt County. Mark your calendar for all the fun springtime events in The City of Canton.

First Monday Trade Days will present a ‘MEGA Easter Egg Hunt’ starting at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 30, at Trade Center 1 on the First Monday Trade Days grounds.

The regular monthly meeting of the Canton School Board March 25 began with students Jaxon and Jep Harris leading the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance and in prayer. Their sincere and heartfelt contribution set a positive tone for the meeting.

Correspondent One of the most highly anticipated events of the spring in Van Zandt County continues through March 30 with the annual VZC Fair and Rodeo at the VZC Fairgrounds in Canton. Admittance to the grounds will be $5.00 per car and $1.00 for walk-ins.

The Republican Women of Van Zandt is scheduled to meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday, April 15 for networking followed by a meeting at 6 p.m.

The City of Canton is continuing with a statewide 57year tradition known as ‘Keep Texas Beautiful’ during the week of April 15. In 1967, the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation, now known as the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), created the Beautify Texas Council to help give Texas a facelift for the upcoming 1968 HemisFair in San Antonio.
