After hearing an announcement about an overseas trip on her college campus last year, Jillian Barber knew that touring Israel was going to be in her plans. Barber, who will be entering her senior year this fall as a business management major at LeTourneau University in Longview, traveled to Israel in May on a 12-day tour as she was part of a tour group that included 23 students and two teachers from the university.

Texas Drawn Hunt Program opens for season applications

New hunting opportunities and scenery are available to hunters this fall through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s (TPWD) drawn hunt permits program. The program, which issues permits for drawn hunts on both public and private lands throughout Texas, is now accepting applications for a shot at almost 10,000 permits in more than 60 high quality hunt categories. Among the offerings available through the Texas Public Hunt System are hunts for white-tailed and mule deer, pronghorn, turkey, alligator and dove and guided packages for exotic species and bighorn sheep. There were 278,000 applications last year.

Hegar announces Broadband Development Program

OAG secures $300 million for Texas in opioid settlement

The Office of the Attorney General (“OAG”) reached a $5 billion multistate settlement with CVS for the company’s role in the national opioid epidemic, including inadequately monitoring opioid prescriptions. Over $300 million is designated for Texas. The agreement with CVS is one of numerous multi-billion- dollar settlements resulting from litigation by state attorneys general against the pharmaceutical industry for practices that escalated a nationwide crisis of fatal abuse of addictive prescription narcotics.

Paxton won’t testify at impeachment trial

TEXAS PRESS ASSOCIATION Attorney General Ken Paxton won’t testify at his upcoming impeachment trial in the Senate, according to his lead defense attorney, Tony Buzbee. “We will not bow to their evil, illegal, and unprecedented weaponization of state power in the Senate chamber,” Buzbee said.
