TERRIE HARRISON Canton Lions Club Secretary The Canton Lions Club District 2-2X met Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at the Van Zandt Country Club. Lion Past District Governor and Canton Lion Past President Jimmy Strickland introduced the guest speaker, Lion Past District Governor Nancy Van Alstine from the Texas Lions Museum and Office Foundation Inc., which is an official project of the Lions of Texas.

Dr. Terry Britt, assistant professor of communication at the University of Texas at Tyler and a longtime former reporter for Van Zandt Newspapers L.L.C., earned a Top Faculty Paper award in the Communication Theory and Methodology division on Aug. 8.

Covering a number of topics surrounding his own department and law enforcement in general, Van Zandt County Sheriff Joe Carter was the guest speaker June 7 during the regular weekly meeting of the Canton Lions Club at the Van Zandt Country Club.

Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller today announced that no-cost meal sites will open across Texas when schools close for summer. The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) administers the Summer Meal Programs in Texas and partners with nonprofit organizations to provide these meals for children 18 and younger and enrolled students with disabilities up to age 21 in low-income areas.

Van Zandt County Appraisal District Chief Appraiser and Tax Administrator Emily Reeves was the guest speaker May 31 during the regular weekly meeting of the Canton Lions Club at the Van Zandt Country Club.

Six-year old Kayleigh Hammack, daughter of Ron and Ley Hammack, qualified as a State Finalist in the National American Miss Texas Pageant to be held at the Westin Gallerian in Dallas July 14-15. The pageant is held for girls ages four to 24 in six different age divisions.

A rifle that has played a role in multiple wars for more than 100 years will be the topic of a Power Point program - The Mosin Nagant Rifle: An Introduction - presented by BFTS Museum Executive Director Patrick Hotard on Thursday April 20 at 7 pm at 119 Silent Wings Blvd. in Terrell. The discussion is free and open to the public.
