This past weekend, I joined my friends on the tree covered grounds of the Top Rail Cowboy Church in Greenville for our Fifth Annual Spring Outdoor Rendezvous. A few years, long time radio personality and good friend, Friendlee Buffington, and I were visiting about starting an outdoor spring event in Hunt County and the idea of the Luke Clayton’s Spring Rendezvous was born.

The Canton Lions Club District 2-X2 met Wednesday, Feb, 7 with Lion President Jesse Carranza presiding. Lion Roxie Cluck introduced the guest speaker, Steve Ruppenthal, Assistant City Manager of Canton.

The future of Texas agriculture starts with the next generation, and a statewide conference will provide opportunities for networking and education for farmers and ranchers between the ages of 18-35. Texas Farm Bureau’s (TFB) Young Farmer & Rancher (YF&R) Spring Conference is designed to equip young leaders in agriculture with the tools needed to increase their agricultural advocacy efforts and help with farm and ranch decisions.

The Republican Women of Van Zandt held a chili cook off for their networking portion of their monthly meeting in January. Volunteer firefighters from the South Van Zandt and the Midway Volunteer Fire Departments assisted with the judging.

The Van Zandt County Pet Project is encouraging pet owners to have their pets spayed and neutered. “Mating season starts soon,” said a VZC Pet Project spokesperson.

Preparations are underway for the third annual ‘No Limits Livestock Experience’ to be held during the Van Zandt County Fair in Canton scheduled for the week of March 25-30. It is a hands-on immersive county fair experience for individuals with special needs throughout VZC.
