The Canton School Board held its monthly school board meeting on Dec. 15 featuring a variety of recognitions and updates that showcased student and staff achievements.

The Canton Lion’s Club held a festive gathering on Dec. 17 at noon at the Van Zandt County Country Club, bringing together community members to celebrate the holiday season and reflect on their shared values.

Canton Lions Club President Sandy Sims was the guest speaker during the club’s weekly luncheon Dec. 10 at Van Zandt Country Club as he discussed the club’s Christmas Food Drive.

Sandra and David Kitsmiller of Canton celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with a dinner hosted by their children at Al Biernat’s in Dallas. Sandra Warren of Perris, California, married David Kitsmiller of Montrose, Colorado, on December 11, 1960, in the first Congregational Church in Perris, California. Mr. and Mrs. Kitsmiller have been self-employed in the construction industry and the commercial and residential real estate industry. They have two children, Sharon Laughlin of Fredericksburg and Todd Kitsmiller of Waxahachie, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. They have lived in Van Zandt County for over 60 years.

Canton resident Amanda Renee Bustos graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) with a Master of Education degree in School Counseling as a part of the Fall 2025 class, which included 1,068 students from throughout Oklahoma, the country and world.

Members of the Canton Police Department surprised Officer Troy Tucker on his 55th birthday Dec. 10 with a luncheon in his honor at the Van Zandt Country Club.

On Thursday, Dec. 4, the Board Members of the Blackwell House Museum in Canton welcomed close to 100 guests for their annual Christmas Open House.

Veteran Matt Hernandez, Van Zandt County Veterans Service Officer (VSO) Tommy Forgue and Navy Veteran Phil Smith recently teamed up with Gail Bowen at Goshen Farms in Ben Wheeler to grill up hamburgers and hot Dogs for the Farms’ monthly cookout for homeless Veterans of Van Zandt County.
