February 22 marked a monumental occasion as the beloved Van Zandt County resident, Shirley Fuller, celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by family and friends. A vibrant figure in the community, Shirley has made a remarkable impact over the years, not only as a devoted mother and grandmother but also as a noteworthy contributor to local history through her writing.

The Van Zandt County Historical Commission celebrated its 62nd anniversary on Monday, Jan. 20, at its regular public meeting at the Van Zandt County/Sarah Norman Library in Canton.

The Canton Lions Club District 2-X2 met Wednesday, Jan. 22 with Lion President Jonathan Helvey presiding.

Over many years now, our Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Department has struggled to keep personnel and even more glaring than that is being able to keep a sheriff for more than one election cycle. Many factors are responsible for this happening but mentioned most often are salaries paid to our officers.

Carter BloodCare has announced that there will be two blood drives in Canton during the month of December. There will be a blood drive from 12:30-6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2 at the Walmart Supercenter, located at 603 East Highway 243.

Wallace Methodist Church, located at 151 VZCR 2501 in Canton, will host its Annual Pie Auction Saturday, Nov. 23.

The late Lawrence O. Greer, distinguished librarian and member of the Van Zandt County Genealogical Society, will be honored at the society’s next monthly meeting at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Van Zandt County/Sarah Norman Library located at 317 First Monday Lane in Canton.

The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) and the Van Zandt County/ Sarah Norman Library, located at 317 First Monday Lane (FM 859) in Canton, will be sponsoring a driver safety class from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21.

The Canton Lions Club District 2-X2 met Wednesday, Nov. 6 at the Van Zandt Country Club.
