Following three major storms that struck Van Zandt County during the time period of April 26 through June 5, options for debris collection and removal were discussed by the VZC Commissioners Court during its regular meeting July 3.

Van Zandt Newspapers L.L.C., publisher of the Van Zandt News, Canton Herald, and Wills Point Chronicle, received three advertising awards recently in the annual Texas Press Association’s (TPA) Better Newspaper Contest.

The Fourth of July Parade on the downtown square in Canton kicked off with the Star-Spangled Banner sung by Morgan Sharpe. The parade, a staple of the Independence Day celebrations in Canton, drew many participants and spectators.

FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) may provide funds to houses of worship and other private nonprofit organizations to help pay for emergency protective measures, debris removal, and restoration of facilities damaged by the storms and flooding April 26-June 5 in Texas.

David Barber has been named editor of the Canton Herald, Wills Point Chronicle and Van Zandt News. The announcement was made by John Buzzetta, president of Van Zandt Newspapers, LLC, which publishes the newspapers.

It is that time of year again and the Fourth of July will be here before you know it. This year, all of the Fourth of July events and sponsorships scheduled for Thursday, July 4, will be managed through the City of Canton directly.
