Fields recognized by council on his retirement

The regular monthly meeting of the Canton City Council opened March 19 with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of prayer. Several announcements were made during the meeting, including the retirement of Ron Fields, who had dedicated 17 years of his life to serving the city of Canton.

CISD to cancel classes for Solar Eclipse

Canton ISD Superintendent Brian Nichols released a statement March 19 about the school district’s decision to cancel classes Monday, April 8, due to the total solar eclipse. “Canton ISD has made the decision to cancel classes Monday, April 8 in anticipation of the total solar eclipse,” emphasized Nichols.

Contract with Animal Protection League approved

The contract was approved following a presentation by Animal Protection League Director Sheila Phillips and a recommendation by VZC Pct.

Pedestrian hit and killed on I-20

A man was hit and killed on Interstate 20 in Terrell in the early morning hours of Sunday, March 17. The Terrell Police Department received two calls from concerned motorists driving westbound on Interstate 20 about a person standing in the roadway.
