‘Bells Across America’ held on courthouse steps

‘Bells Across America’ rang in unison at 3 p.m. Sept.

Carrie Woolverton, representing the Daughters of the American Revolution, Neches River Chapter, Van Zandt County, led in the ringing of the bells at the conclusion of a ceremony Sept. 17 on the north side steps of the VZC Courthouse. Those in attendance were each given bells to ring along with Woolverton at exactly 3 p.m. that day to celebrate 237 years of the Constitution of the United States of America. Photo by David Barber

Commissioners Court approves tax rate, budget

davidb@vanzandtnews.com After agreeing to modify the proposed fiscal year 2025 budget in a 2-0 vote on Aug. 14, the VZC Commissioners Court unanimously approved the modified version in a 5-0 vote during their regular meeting Sept. 11.

The dedication of a Texas State Historical Marker Sept. 13 stands as a testament to the 1964 Canton High School football team’s enduring legacy.

The 1964 Canton High School football team was honored with a Texas Historical Marker Sept. 13 during a dedication ceremony at Norris Birdwell Stadium.
