This past week at Van Zandt Country Club, the Canton Eaglettes golf team finished second at the Region II-4A tournament. The Eaglettes will qualify for the Class 4A State Golf Tournament May 6-7 at the Legends Course in Kingsland.

The Canton Eaglette girls’golf team won the District 16-4A championship easily this past week, and is now looking towards the Region II tournament in two weeks at the Van Zandt Country Club in Canton. The team recorded a score of 346 in the cold, windy conditions.

Canton Eaglette junior Allison Rickman was recently named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-State Girls Basketball Team for Class 4A. Rickman was also named to the Class 1A-4A Legacy All-Star Team.

The Canton High school varsity girls’ golf team won the Canton Invitational easily this past week with a team score of 334, setting a team record for a one day total. The Eaglettes will next compete at the district tournament on March 25 and 26 at the Van Zandt Country Club.

In a battle of Van Zandt County rivals March 15, the Canton Eaglettes outlasted the visiting Wills Point Lady Tigers, 8-0, in Canton. The Eaglettes got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning after Rylee Busby hit into a fielder’s choice and the Lady Tigers committed an error, each leading to a run for Canton.

Two members of the Class 4A Regional Finalist Canton Eaglettes basketball team were recently named to the Class 4A All-Region Team by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. Chloe Howe and Allison Rickman of the Eaglettes were named to the squad.

Several members of the District 16-4A Basketball Champion Canton Eaglettes were recognized for their achievements on and off the court recently. Coach Troy Carrell’s Eaglettes, 33-6 overall during the season, advanced as deep as the Class 4A Regional Finals in addition to winning the district, bi-district, and Area round titles during their playoff run.

The Canton Eaglette girls’ ‘green’ and ‘white’ teams had impressive showings Feb. 27 in the Eustace Invitational.
