Eaglettes attend TVCC game

While Canton High School Head Football Coach and Athletic Director Heath Ragle was not too surprised overall about the results of the new district realignment released Feb. 1 by the Texas University Interscholastic League (UIL), he was caught off guard by one development following the announcement. “After years of being in this business for so long, you never really know what to expect,” pointed out Ragle. “You can always expect the unexpected. I was not shocked at the direction we are going with our new district alignment, but I am shocked that Van is not with us in this new football district. We will not be competing together in the same football district. From that standpoint, it was a different day than what we expected.” District realignments released by the UIL Feb. 1 are for the 2024-25 and the 2021526 school years, according to Ragle.

It was a big district win on the road for the Canton Eagles Feb. 2 as they outlasted the Brownsboro Bears, 5134.

The 14th state-ranked Canton Eaglettes went into Brownsboro Feb. 2 and soundly defeated the state’s seventh- ranked and defending Class 4A state champion Brownsboro Bearettes, 43-27.

We deer hunters live for opening day, the long-awaited opener of deer season. Through the long, hot summer months, we eagerly await early November and again the opportunity to take to the woods in quest of antlers and venison.

The 12th ranked Canton Eaglettes traveled toAthens Jan. 23 and came away with a convincing 62-25 win.

High school administrators, athletic directors, and coaches in Canton ISD, Van Zandt County and across the state of Texas will be anxiously awaiting word on what district realignment will look like for the next two school years as the Texas University Interscholastic League (UIL) is scheduled to release information at 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1. District realignment is announced every two years by the UIL.

It was a tough night for the Canton Eagles on the road Jan. 23 as they lost to the Athens Hornets in district play, 45-34.

The Canton Eagles were well represented on the District 8-4A, Division 2, All-District Football Team recently announced. Senior Logan Faglie was named as a ‘First Team Specialist’ and senior Justus Petree was selected as a ‘First Team Utility’ player.
