The Republican Women’s Club of Van Zandt County will be staying busy during the month of April. On Saturday, April 12, the organization will be involved with the Women’s League Garage Sale.

St. Justin’s Episcopal Church will be celebrating Holy Week Services next week.

Van Zandt County Aggie Club President Tim Burke has announced that Muster 2025 will be hosted by the VZC A&M Club starting at 6 p.m. Monday, April 21 at The Old School Museum located at 701 North Green Street in Grand Saline.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is planning to conduct the following construction and maintenance work in Van Zandt County during the week of April 7. Please remember, work schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, equipment failure, or other unforeseen issues.

The annual Canton Eagle Relays were held March 27 at Norris Birdwell Stadium with 10 schools participating in varsity and junior varsity boys’ and girls’ divisions. Canton’s varsity boys’ won their division while the varsity girls’ finished third in their division. The junior varsity boys for Canton placed second in their division. Following the regular meeting of the Van Zandt County Commissioners’ Court March 26, VZC Judge Andy Reese issued the following press release to the News regarding the Battery Energy Storage Facility (BESS) under construction south of Canton.

The Van Zandt County/ Sarah Norman Library in Canton will be hosting its annual Easter Egg Hunt starting at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 10, at the library.

Candidates in the May 3 Canton School Board election are reminded to turn in their Candidate Questionnaires and photos to the office of the Canton Herald by 3 p.m. Friday, April 4.

In a discussion with a group of friends, the question was posed, ‘What is more fun? Preparing for an outdoor adventure, the adventure itself, or reliving the outing long after it occurred?’ Up in Montague County this past week with my friend, Don Gresham, scouting his beautiful ranch and setting up some feeders in preparation for next fall’s hunting season, I’d have to say if the actual hunting proves to be half as much fun as the day we experienced, we are in for a real treat. The group of friends I spent the day with would have a great time regardless of what they were doing, just as long as it was in the great outdoors.
