VZC road cleanup begins following last year’s storms

Van Zandt County Judge Van Zandt County experienced significant tree damage from May and June storms last year, downing many trees throughout the county. Road and bridge crews worked to get the trees removed from the roads, tossing them into the ditches to clear the roads for traffic.

The City of Canton recognized Jerry Shamlin with a street named in his honor during a Street Sign Reveal ceremony March 11. Shamlin has worked for the city for more than 20 years as Director of Public Works and still works on the First Monday Grounds today. The street sign is located on VZCR 2106 between FM 859 and State Highway 19 in the Wynne Community near the Canton Industrial Park. His family has a long history of living in the Wynne Community. Introducing Shamlin was Canton Mayor Lou Ann Everett-Berry.

Curry speaks during weekly Lions Club Luncheon

The Canton Lions Club held its regular weekly luncheon meeting on March 12 at Craft 64 in Canton. The event featured prominent speakers and discussions on community projects, upcoming events, and pressing local issues.
The weekly Canton Lions Club Luncheon was held at Craft 64 March 12. The next club luncheon was held March 19 at Bean and Burger. The club is looking for a new permanent location to hold their weekly luncheons. Photos by Susan Harris
