Student Success Series event planned for local students

Students in the graduating classes of 2026 and 2027 can sign up to participate in this year’s Engage program offered through Texas Farm Bureau’s (TFB) Student Success Series. The program helps students develop leadership skills, explore potential career opportunities, network with their peers in the area and meet Farm Bureau staff and members.

National Consumer Protection Week (NCPW), scheduled for March 2-8, 2025, is a collaborative initiative between the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). This annual event is dedicated to educating consumers about their rights and providing essential information to help them recognize and avoid scams, fraud, and identity theft.

‘Smart 911’ system now available in VZC

Van Zandt County Fire Marshal Kevin Palmer is encouraging citizens in VZC to sign up for the new ‘Smart 911’ system. “This system allows the VZC Fire Marshals Office (VZCFMO) and the VZC Emergency Management Office to send emergency notifications directly to your phone and/or e-mail,” emphasized Palmer.

Food Waste Management discussed during Canton Lions Club meeting

On Feb. 19, the Canton Lions Club held an engaging program focused on the municipal food waste diversion initiative known as the Food Cycle program. The event took place during the club’s weekly luncheon at a new location, Craft 64, where members gathered to learn about converting food waste into a nutrient- rich soil additive.
The weekly Canton Lions Club Luncheon moved to a new location Feb.19 as the meeting took place at Craft 64 located at the intersection of State Highway 64 and Interstate 20 in Canton.
